The first thing I’ve started to do in preparation for the yoga championships are backbends. Now, I always do some backbends every day, but for the last 2 years, I’ve really backed off my flexibility training and have spent most of my time in the gym trying to put on some muscle. There’s only so much time in the day to train and keep a full time job as well! So now the gym is taking a back seat, (I’m only doing the minimum necessary to maintain what I’ve got) and I’m finally getting a chance to turn my attention back to the yoga studio. I couldn’t be more happy! I hadn’t had huge progression in my postures in a while, and I’ve always wanted to execute scorpion with my legs together, and I’ve always wanted to do a really high crane up on my fingers. So how am I going to get there? Well, first of all I’ve enlisted the help of Mary Jarvis, a woman who knows how to make these kinds of improvements happen, (she helped me 3 years ago get to where I am now in my current flexibility). I’ll be periodically sending her my photos and videos and do whatever exercises she tells me to do. And to start things off I’m doing 50 backbends a day, oversplits, and 10 head-to-knee, 10 standing bows, and 10 scorpions coupled with finger stand push-ups to prepare myself. I’ll also be doing guillotene and sleeping yogi exercises to prepare for crane.
I’ll post as much as I can about my journey towards the competition, and hope you are able to follow along a little bit. If you have any questions about exercises or nutrition or my weight training, please ask!
Love and Light,
Michelle
