Where I was hanging out this afternoon…spent my first full day here in Tulum, and I have to say that it was a pretty magical way to spend a Sunday…enjoyed 2 fried eggs and an espresso at the local “all-natural” cafe, Elemental, and then picked up some beach essentials like 60 SPF sunblock, a hat and a beach bag, some wicked fins to go with the Mask/Snorkel kit I picked up on my last visit, and then I let the diving instructor convince me to sign up for some diving lessons…in just 4 days I could be certified, whooot…now, excitement aside, do I really need another hobby?…time will tell… Scoped out the local gym, which has most of the essentials, and it’s open at 7 am, so I can keep up with my training and get it out of the way before the sun starts beating down on this little tourist town. I plan on spending most of my days on the beach or exploring the local biosphere and cenotes that make this peninsula so spectacular. I also found a place to buy a beach cruiser for about $100 usd, so when I take my rental back on Saturday, I’ll have cheaper, cleaner transportation. I absolutely looove biking around this town, so I’ll be picking up my new wheels tomorrow after the gym :))))
I found some great places to load up on groceries too: a fantastic local fruit and vegetable stand is right down the street from my house: coconuts, pineapple, mangos, dragonfruit, bananas, tangerines, limes, oranges, papaya…. Now that I don’t have to be 8% BF, I’ll be taking some of the fat and protein out, and putting back in the fruits, vegetables and legumes, (and maybe a corn tortilla here and there!). Can’t wait to make the local black-bean soup with Oaxaca String Cheese, lime and cilantro….sooooo delicious and nutritious. There’s also a huge new supermarket that just opened that has a few organic essentials like olive oil, coconut and sesame oils, full-fat yogurt and cream, and the local meats and eggs are farm-raised. You can actually taste the difference in the meat, it’s almost gamey, and the egg yolks are the brightest orange I’ve ever seen. Then there is the freshness of the seafood…There are local fish and cheese stores all over town, (fresh corn tortillas abound too…gluten-free, yippee!) I’m trying out a new ceviche recipe tomorrow, courtesy of Jamie Oliver, with my own twist, of course…
Dulce Suenos!
