I have 5 full days under my belt, and I am now mentally deep in the “zone”. My energy is high and “clean”, if I can use that word. Those of you that have fasted or have conditioned for an event know what I am talking about. I have a very focused attention, feel extremely organized and conscious, and am able to put my mind to solve whatever task or problem lies in front of me. Though I am feeling fatigue in the muscles a little earlier in my sets, I am able to push through, which is great. Last night I had to squeeze in my gym workout late, (10 pm) but I powered through the squats, lunges and dead-lifts, and had one of the best workouts of my life. Legs were successfully trained, and this morning when I woke up I could see how well this first week of conditioning was going. I really that first week is crucial to get some confidence in, and build up the momentum you will surely need for the weeks ahead. A good conditioning protocol should match up your training sessions with your nutrition, and I feel like I’ve learned from one of the best coaches regarding training/nutrition and conditioning.
Today I head off to True to teach the morning Bikram classes, and then I’ll be meeting up with my client Nikitin Dheer, a young Bollywood actor, to run through a classic Jean-Jacques Barrett energy system workout. You’ve seen this one before: 3 giant sets of exercises, 12 different exercises in total. We will run through each bloc of 4 exercises 3 times, take a 3 minute break, and then progress to the next giant set. We follow a maximum rep protocol consisting of 40 seconds flat-out work, and a 20 second “break”. Each set takes 12 minutes. This is a total killer, and strips off the fat like nobodies business. Right now I’m only doing one a week, but I can do two or even three towards the end of my program depending on how my physique is coming in.
