Only 10 days left to this diet, and this could very well be my last “refeed”, although that will depend on what my coach decides when he sees my progress pictures before I step on the plane in 4 nights. If you don’t already know, I have been doing a “quickie” dial-in for an upcoming photoshoot with Oxygen magazine. They’re running an article on yoga and core training, and I was lucky enough to be suggested for the article by Paul Buceta, (I shot with him the day before leaving for India as part of a winning package with SAF). I had been on a 2 1/2 month “gaining” protocol, so it was a total one-eighty, but I feel on track for the shoot, and my energy and moods are high, and I’ve been able to still eat pretty rich and delicious meals, albeit small. I do have a pretty intense work load: I train Bikram every day, and 4 days a week I do a “double”. I also hit the gym with a pretty intense, heavy, high reps program that Jean-Jacques devised for me. He calls it “Lactic Acid” training, as my sets are broken down into drop sets of 6 and 6, and everything is superset or in a giant set. In other words, my weight training days all have a metabolic element to them, to help with fat loss.
On my refeed days, I am aiming to eat:
120 grams proteins
To be honest, I haven’t been strictly calculating today, just making sure I take in more carbs, and eating around my workouts as per usual. This is what I ended up having:
Meal 1: 2 strips of thin bacon, and one whole egg fried in about a teaspoon of ghee, coffee with cream, and 2 squares of 85% Lindt dark chocolate
Meal 2: 30 g Protein Powder mixed with 6 frozen strawberries, ice and 1/2 cup whole milk, latte
Meal 3: 2 fried eggs with 2 tiny pieces of whole grain baguette, 1 coconut water
Meal 4: 3 oz chicken in a coconut curry, 1/2 cup vegetables, (roasted tomatoes, roasted squash, sauteed mushrooms), 2 potato wedges from Indigo Cafe
Meal 5: 4 oz lamb racks, 1 cup curried vegetables, 1 large whole wheat chapati
Meal 6: 3 oz steak, 1 square of dark chocolate, 1/2 c grape juice
I’ve been on a mostly low carb diet this for the past 3 weeks, and down to 20 – 30 grams per day total for the last week. I’ll be sticking with that protocol until I get home, and continuing with a pretty intense training schedule. I have an upper-body/shoulder/core session today, and a final leg session on Wednesday. I’ll be doing Bikram everday, and a double session on Tuesday and Thursday as that’s the day we do Advanced here in Mumbai. I head to the airport just past midnight on Thursday, and will stick to water and raw vegetables, some meat from home if I can swing it, nuts, and I’ll bring some protein powder as an emergency backup. Hopefully they’ll have boiled eggs or something innocuous for me to eat. I’m with British Airways, so they should have decent food…I can only hope!
I’ll take pictures of some of the foods I’m eating today, so you can see what a low-carb, low-cal diet looks like for a hedonist! It might not be as bad as you think…xoxo
