To give you an idea of some of the things I’m doing to train for the yoga competition, this morning I woke up, made myself a fresh cup of rich coffee, did some work on the computer and had my morning breakfast of yogurt mixed with oatmeal and protein powder, a fresh fig and some toasted mixed nuts, (almonds, walnuts and cashews). Then I headed off early to the studio to do 20 backbends and oversplits before class, (I like to prepare myself so I get the most out of the Beginner’s Class). Then I practiced, just focusing on alignment and using the postures to increase blood-flow and nutrition to my body, and noticing any kinks or congestion from yesterday’s training. After class, I grabbed a coconut water and a small protein shake, and sipped on that while I did the rest of my backbends, (30), camels, splits, leg-breaking postures, head2knee and standing-bow routines, and scorpions.
This is me, (duh, who else would it be??) in Tiger, and then folded down into Scorpion pose. I am trying to get my knees to touch, and I’m quite a ways away, obviously. But the journey is what it is all about, and no matter what happens, I am having a blast, and love pushing through old boundaries and really facing myself and my fears and doubts, and also seeing my determination and drive.
What did I eat after work was over? I had more yogurt with super ripe pineapple immediately afterwards, and when I got home I had the rest of my yogurt-oatmeal-protein powder, about 1/2 cup was leftover from this morning, and tossed that with a few more nuts…I’ll finish off last night’s steak, potatoes and veggies before heading out for the night.
Now I’m off to Rikin’s Supplements to see about getting some NOW Grape-Seed Antioxidants to start taking, (on the suggestion of Kris Gethin, who I’m lucky enough to be able to ask for advice here in India), to ward off the stress and inflammation of this much work in the hot studio!
Hope you enjoy the photos,
Paz everybody!!

Hi! I’m an avid follower of your blog especially your yoga section. It was my first time competing for the usa Nationals this year and reading all your progress has definitely served as an inspiration for me to keep on going 🙂
I have some questions if you don’t mind. Do you have any stretching routine after all those backbending to neutralize the spine? I feel as if all the backbending I’ve been doing has been taking away from my forwardbending (rabbit and standing head to knee). And could you please recommend any shoulder openers that would help in full standing bow and full wheel? My shoulders are very strange. One minute they are flexible. The next they are tight.
Thank you so much! And goodluck with all your training. You are amazing!
